Excellent small town romance!

Loved this book!! All the stories in this series are really good and I highly recommend all of them. Liam and Riley are a great couple. Riley has some issues to work out regarding her ability to accept help from others and it is an interesting journey. I really liked how the author worked this out. Liam and Riley also have great chemistry! I can't wait to read Judd and Autumn's story!!! I also agree with another reviewer who can't wait til Cam and Norah get married.

Worth the wait!

I've been anxiously waiting for this next Wishful couple's story, and I was not disappointed. I devoured it in less than 24 hours - always a great sign of a series worth reading! And as usual, Kait left me wanting the next dose of Wishful immediately. I highly recommend you jump in and enjoy Riley and Liam!

Realistic characters with unique voices

This story gets 4.8 out of five stars from me. I simply didn't want to put it down.
I'll be honest and say I had a crush on Liam when I read the first book in this series. It was delightful to climb inside Riley's skin and fall totally in love with this handsome Marine.
As I've come to expect from Ms. Nolan, the characters were well-drawn, relateable and had unique, witty voices. She is a master at getting us inside her characters' heads. This will ground me in a story faster than pretty writing or exciting plot events ever could.
I found the issues Riley and Liam faced much easier to relate to than those in the first book of this series. (Why have I not read the second book? That might need to be remedied.) The plot felt authentic. Those tedious misunderstandings that get blown out of proportion in many romances weren't allowed to spiral out of control. Well done, I say.
Yes, there are steamy scenes, but they don't detract from the overall amazing storyline. This is a must read for people who love romance.
And I really want to visit Wishful, Mississippi. Just saying.

Lido for Time

I enjoyed the book. I highly recommend this book, but with the proviso that you will enjoy it more if you also buy Assault on Lake Cassitas by the same author. It puts the book Assault into a bit of perspective, and visa versa. The book is basically a log book of workouts with the author's thoughts for that day, goals and some interesting passages on racing. Very inspirational.

I coach at Rocky Mountain Rowing Club in Denver and fairly new to coaching. I have found Brad's other books very helpful in my coaching (especially Wanted: Rowing Coach). A lap around Cherry Creek Reservoir is sort of like a Lido piece but without the boats and homes to look at (or run into).

...Been there, done that (rowing around Lido Isle for time that is...long ago....), and it brought back great memories of college rowing in the '70's at UC Irvine. Hey, if you row for Orange Coast or Irvine, what are you waiting for? Get this book! A must have....

Want to see what goes into winning Olympic gold?

This book gives you as big and vivid a slice as you'll see. Brad couldn't include the FOURTEEN YEARS of rowing, training, racing, and rowing some more preceding that fateful race with Paul Enquist in 1984, but the 365 days he describes here are...inspiring. It's hard to put it into words, honestly, because how do you encapsulate searing commitment, determination, and desire in a hundred pages, or even a thousand? Pick it up. Peruse it. Enjoy it.

Un libro excelente

Es un pedazo de novela negra, muy bien documentada y con una trama impecablemente tejida en la que hasta el mism�simo final no se consigue adivinar qui�n puede ser ese asesino al que la prensa llama “basajaun”. La autora deja caer con maestr�a una pista por aqu�, otra por all�, como si fueran miguitas de pan, pero estoy segura de que hasta los lectores de novela negra m�s experimentados lo tendr�n dif�cil para pillarla, porque Dolores Redondo ha elaborado la intriga con el mimo de un buen pastelero (no en vano la familia de la inspectora Amaia Salazar se dedica a la pasteler�a) y el final no es para nada previsible.

Pero “El guardi�n invisible” es, en mi opini�n, mucho m�s que una novela negra. Y no solo por la original idea de introducir en la trama elementos de mitolog�a vasca y algunas escenas inquietantes de las que hacen que un leve escalofr�o nos baje por la columna vertebral. Lo que me ha llamado poderosamente la atenci�n es c�mo se adentra Dolores Redondo en la psicolog�a de sus personajes, algo que suelo echar en falta en muchas novelas negras o de misterio, que se centran exclusivamente en resolver el asesinato (o los asesinatos) de turno, relegando a los personajes a ser simples figuras de cart�n piedra. Y esta novela posee, adem�s, lo que eleva a un libro por encima del mero producto de entretenimiento (y que conste que el entretenimiento no tiene nada de malo) para convertirlo en literatura de la buena: al igual que un hojaldre (por seguir con el s�mil pastelero) tiene m�ltiples capas y permite descubrir entre ellas nuevos y ricos matices.

Warm and human story

The story caught me for its warmth, authentic diaglogue, and humane characters. I enjoyed the description of the landscape and the feelings of magic of the place. I had travelled near that region; the story brought back many good memories of the mountains and small towns in the Pyrenees. Dolores Redondo is an excellent story-teller; in her novel, she shares her love and respect for the Baztan valley and its people. Mi novela negra ideal es aqu�lla que combina trama solida, atm�sfera inquietante y lenguaje efectivo. El guardi�n invisible dista mucho de serlo. Da la sensaci�n de que la autora haya seguido una de las recetas de sus personajes: 1 kg de asesino en serie, 100 g de mitolog�a y una loncha de drama familiar. Los ingredientes sin duda son de buena calidad, pero el resultado no es muy apetecible. Esos tres ingredientes no llegan a mezclarse nunca. Por una parte est� la trama, que se va diluyendo a lo largo de los cap�tulos (a veces a uno se le olvida de qu� va la cosa), hasta deshincharse por completo; por otra parte, el aspecto sobrenatural, anecd�tico y prescindible (si busco en Wikipedia mitolog�a vasca, encuentro mucho m�s), y por �ltimo, los personajes, planos e incoherentes. Es muy dif�cil identificarse con alguno de ellos, porque todos hablan con la misma voz, la de la autora. Da igual que nos d� mil detalles sobre la vida de cada uno de los protagonistas: los personajes no nos hablan. En definitiva, mucho ingrediente, poca elaboraci�n y menor aderezo. Soso.

About the Author

Born in Malaysia in 1857 to a Chinese father and Portuguese mother, Gu Hongmingstudi ed in Scotland. He received an M.A. in Literature from the University of Edinburgh, a diploma in Civil Engineering at the University of Leipzig, and studied law in Paris. Returning to Malaysia in 1880, he joined the colonial Singapore civil service and eventually went to China where he held many ranking positions in the Imperial government. Throughout his career, he wrote many essays and books about Confucius, primarily in English. By the end of his life in 1928 he was renowned as an interpreter of China and the Chinese people to the West. Dr. Jinli He, Ph.D. is Assistant Professor of Modern Languages and Literatures at Trinity University in San Antonio, Texas. She received her Ph.D. from the Department of Chinese Language and Literature at Peking University.

A scholar viewpoint on the spirit of Chinese people

This is a scholar work from Dr Gu who mastered nine languages with 13 PhDs in royal English. He expressed in English and French what he witnessed the Foreign Powers in imperialism and colonialism in China. He commented what the Protestant missionaries did in China in "civilizing" heathen Chinese. He saw that Western Civilization in China was basically Darwinism of jungle law. He wrote beautifully in introducing the essentials of Chinese civilization of five thousand years to Westerns who were impressed and amazed that a "Chinaman" was able to master the language eloquently Understanding both Chinese culture and Western culture enable him to compare and contrast the good and bad, justice and injustice, true and false. He saw the Western men of God act contrary to God's teaching of respecting others, causing confrontations, ill-feelings and hatred. He tried to act according to Confucius's teaching"do not do onto others what you do not want to do onto you".

While I did not agree with many of the viewpoints put forth by the author, I found the book fascinating. The logic of his arguments was so interesting. I also recognized the influence of the times and culture in which he lived. The book allowed me to learn a bit more about a very prominent Chinese author and philosopher.
