About the Author
The editor of this collection, Andy Zubko, has also collaborated on a book about the American saint Peace Pilgrim. Born in New Jersey, he became a partner in a successful greeting card company. Although very successful materially in business, he found himself deeply unsatisfied with his life. He sold his share of the business and took over an orphanage that the Catholic Church had decided to close. He has worked with Peace Pilgrim, with homeless people, and with Mother Teresa's nuns in Haiti, and now lives a contemplative life in an almond orchard in Northern California.

Serviceable autobiography of the dancer-comedienne-leading lady, now 80. Rogers does an always absorbing job of recreating her legendary career without ever quite capturing the voice we all remember from her films. As a young comedienne, she often gave a mischievous, sassy edge to her roles, coming on fast and smart. The woman who writes this book, however, has been a nondrinking, largely nonsmoking Christian Scientist all her adult life--not the opinionated, raspy personality the ``Ginger'' implies. Rogers has been the victim of husbands given to partying, drink, and philandering rather than a woman chasing her own satisfactions. Born Virginia McMath in Independence, Missouri, she was stage- struck early, winning dance contests and then joining the vaudeville circuits at 14; luckily, she had a wise mother who guided her professionally for much of her life while allowing Rogers to make her own mistakes romantically. They parted company briefly when, at 17, Rogers married Jack Culpepper, 29, who turned out to be a drunk. At 19, the performer was the toast of Broadway, starring in Florenz Ziegfeld's production of George and Ira Gershwin's Girl Crazy and off on a rocket that took her through 19 films before Flying Down to Rio teamed her with Fred Astaire. She doesn't mention her wit for stealing scenes in those earlier films but makes clear that she was an accomplished artist with strong film presence even before her teaming with Astaire. Rogers describes the making of each of the team's musicals, her hard times with director Mark Sandrich (Top Hat), love for George Stevens (Swing Time, her favorite--but really not the team's best film, which is Roberta). Marriage to her idol Lew Ayres dissolved after six years, an on-and-off romance with Cary Grant fizzled. Keeps you rapt, mostly. High point: the Oscar for Kitty Foyle. In Her Own Words

I found this book to be delightful. I'm not taken aback by the use of the first person pronoun, or the comments on Christian Science, or her bursts of enthusiasm that come through from many years ago. In fact, they enhance understanding of this ebullient and hard-working personality. She's open about her flaws and imperfections...and in fact, seems eager to communicate them to the public....who, seeing her in more than a few transcendentally beautiful films, had come to expect the same from her in person. She demonstrates her down-home humanity and her joy of life many times over...even as she attempts to set the record straight, on all the so many erroneous things, that were said about her over the years.

She's quiet on certain (but not all) personal things...i.e., between husband and wife....and I'm glad she had the good taste NOT to let us in on the things that are none of our business. She was more of a private person...like Fred...than many would have supposed. She was active socially at different parts of her life, but always preferred the small gathering, or the small party, with friends.

Some viewed her as an "ultra-conservative". But here too, she sets the record straight. She only supported her mother's right to speak out regarding her opinions on left influence of some Hollywood script writers. It should be noted however, that this was at the very moment when the theft of American atom bomb secrets led to an exact copy, being detonated by Mr. Stalin. Compare Ginger's "sin" to Kate Hepburn's melodramatic and simplistic "I am a communist" speech in their support. I'm not disparaging Kate at all, but truly, which was worse?

She wasn't so "ultra-conservative" not to have met and admired Democrats FDR, Elinor Roosevelt, Harry Truman (who had a day for her in Independence, Missouri), and Jimmy Carter. She wasn't so "ultra-conservative" to have broken her engagement with a cheating Howard Hughes, and turned away from a life of wealth and luxury. She wasn't so "ultra-conservative" not to have married a pacifist, and to have considered as her favorite film, Hollywood's first anti-war movie: "All Quiet on the Western Front", starring her future husband Lew Ayres. She wasn't so "ultra conservative" not to have been a fighter for her own rights, and the rights of actresses. And in fact, it should be noted that her friend and colleague, Ronald Reagan, with whom, in 1950, she did the anti Klu Klux Klan film "Storm Warning", helped to end the cold war, with Mickhail Gorbachev...whom HE befriended.

Underlying her great talent, charm, personality, versatility, and good looks, she had a strength of character, which earned her every bit of her many accolades. Yes, she admittedly and not surprisingly, also made mistakes, both professional and personal...but...and this is key to understanding her...bounced back every time. She didn't live in a dream world of her brilliant past career...but lived in the moment...even if that moment was not up to her highest past standards...as is almost always inevitable in late career.

In my opinion, this did not diminish her one iota. As Billy Wilder said..."We are all as good as the best things we've done." If this is the standard, and I think it is, then Ginger Rogers must be ranked very highly indeed. Her dance musicals, her dramatic acting, and her skills as a first rate comedienne, her stage musicals, all place her in the category of a classic Hollywood legend.

She was a hard working actress, who loved her audiences; quietly took care of her family and charities; transcended her mid-West background to become a woman of the world; and who never took out a loan in her life. Fred Astaire had a three word description of her spunk. Fred simply said: "She had guts.". That's Ginger Rogers. I recognize the quality of her life....and I recommend this book highly.

About the Author
Since 2005, Ryan Licwinko has taught people to succeed on the GMAT, both in classrooms and privately. He became frustrated with the limitations of working under a company and its philosophy. So, he started writing his own lessons and essays on the GMAT. Ryan now works independently with students in southern Connecticut as both a test prep tutor and academic tutor. He also works with students via Skype, which enables him to work with anyone anywhere. He maintains a website, www.spacelandprep.com.

Spaceland Prep's Endgame: A Finishing Guide to GMAT� Quant is one of the rare prep books that sticks pretty close to its stated goals and audience: it is a polishing book, not a starting book. Of specific assistance are some "this is what the GMAT is looking for" reminders, the thematic recaps of GMAT-stressed concepts, and most helpfully the specific references at the end of every chapter that highlight the exact questions in The Official Guide for GMAT Review, 13th Ed. that match those concepts. Those references are excellent for people putting the last touches on their GMAT study. A few of the chapters may err on the side of assuming more mathematical dexterity than readers possess, particularly in the probability chapter, but some of those assumptions are understandable given that this is supposed to be a finishing guide. Thus, Endgame should not be used by someone new to the GMAT or who doesn't have a working vocabulary for math; there are other books or instructors that would be better for those starting out with the GMAT. The end of chapter summaries of formulas and concepts in chapters 4 and 6 are also valuable for those polishing off their GMAT study. A few typos remain that could be cleaned up, but they do not impact the overall value of this book. If you're finishing up study, and want to gauge your retention of important themes and concepts, Endgame is a very efficient resource for the task.

Sue is a nationally recognized expert in Appreciative Inquiry, a process that changes the focus from finding out what is going wrong to discovering and expanding best practices in organizations. Her first book The Thin Book of� Appreciative Inquiry is a national bestseller, with sales in excess of 170,000 copies. Sue started Thin Book Publishing in response to the book's success and customer requests for more "thin books". just used two things. this book and the 10 dollar "study guide" on the clep website which had no information, but a useful practice test.

I read the 60 pages of info in this, took notes, cut out the flashcards, and took the practice test. all in all maybe 15 total hours of studying. I knew a bit about like hardware and software but mostly encountered new terms and concepts. my score was a 64 and my school required a 50 to pass. Heads up, the test had some newer terms and concepts- hence the usefulness of the clep website overpriced bs.

TLDR this book taught me what was on the majority of the exam. GL

A must read. One of the best for true RE investors

I have been investing in RE for over 20 years and I have read a lot of books. This one is the best so far and I would say it is a must read.

This book is not a Carlton Sheets (et al) get rich quick balogna book. This is a book for serious RE investors.

If you want to flip properties, this book is not for you. If you want to buy and hold properties, this is by far the best book I have ever read.

The most value of this book is how to properly assess value of a property. Assessing the value of a property is probably the most difficult thing. Not only does he teach you how to do this, he teaches you how to see through the sellers inflated balance sheets and possible misleading Realtor statements.

Also of tremendous value is how to properly manage properties for maximum cashflow. I had no idea I had so much to learn in this area.

What more can I say? Just get the book. I got the audio book and I listened to it at least 4 times.

Finally a "How To" Book on Investing!

My expectations were low at first. I've heard so many people bashing GURUs on the subject of investing in RE and thought I'd hear the same advice. I couldn't have been more WRONG!

Ken McElroy, takes the time to explain all the tools you will need in order to be successful in RE investing. The thing I found most helpful is the end of the chapter To Do List. Have you ever read a chapter and moved on to the next chapter without an action plan...Not in this book!

McElroy talks about the things that made him a success as well as a recommended path for you to be successful. He doesn't cover flipping properties. When he does mention Flipping Properties, he advises against it.

I would recommend this book to the beginner and intermediate investor. For 2 reasons, this book will move you into the doing stage of your investing career with its action plan. Secondly, there is no fluff here. He gives you fact after fact.

Breaking the myths

Here's my book review on this real estate book.

PROS:

This book addresses two main myths that people have about real estate.

1. One is, since you don't have that much money, you shouldn't invest in real estate. Though this book doesn't cover how to finance your investments, it does name a few examples of how a few people who didn't have money managed to invest in real estate to make their millions.

2. The second myth is how big deals are too risky so don't go after them. The book gives an example of other people doing it.

The fact of the matter is, if you don't have much money, you'll either need to get some capital by borrowing or partnering. And when you face big deals, the risks are heavier but also the rewards are multiplied.

CONS:

1. In the end, this book covers real estate pros (but hardly any cons). So it is motivating but unbalanced. Care and risk management should always be part of your investment strategies.

However, Momzillas does mark the rise of a new trend in contemporary fiction: mom lit. Momzillas--we've all met them and this book is spot on

A funny and provocative look into the mean mommies of the Upper East Side. Hannah is learning her way in an arena of shallow, logo loving women with social climbing aspirations that are cut throat, to say the least. Her initiation into this anxiety riddled group of women is something any woman that has moved can relate to, even if it is not to this extreme. We've all met a "Momzilla", in all economic categories. Hannah's fashion sense is wrong, her child is relatively dressed like a ragamuffin and will grow up with no promise of a future because in this world, and applications to good nurseries must start at the prenatal stage. Hannah's blue blood mother-in-law is already entrenched in the tony New York lifestyle and mourns her son's choice; making Hannah's pariah status even more pronounced. The writer is funny and has some well placed fresh similes that will make you laugh out loud. I thoroughly enjoyed this book.

Fun and Easy Read!

Momzillas is a fun and interesting look at Motherhood in the vastly competitive world of Mahattan. Jill Kargman does a great job telling a story about a "down to earth" Mom trying to navigate her way through gaining acceptance with the Upper East Side Momzilla's. Yet, in the end, she realizes that Manhattan, although sometimes a tough nut to crack, is not limited to those back biting socialites, and finds her place in the big city.
A story that many Moms accross the country, whether from a big or small town, can relate too!
I Enjoyed the book immensley and after reading it went out and purchased Jill Kargman's other two novels!
