Best Brain Health Book I've Read

I've read most of the brain health books on the market, from Dr. Daniel Amen's books to Dr. Mark Hymen's. Out of all these books "Super Charge Your Brain" is by far the best. It's short, practical, applicable, actionable and transformational. The research reference pages at the end of the book, match the number of pages in the book, and yet it's very user friendly and easy for anyone to read. I recommend this book to anyone with a brain.

Meh. More like 50 tips to improve your health.

The book summary should read: The author provides general health blog-type tips based upon the research of his two assistants plus recipes from a third assistant. I purchased this book because the title, book summary, and previous reviews suggested that this book was a thorough evaluation of current brain-based literature and provided "strategies" to achieve exceptional brain health. Mirriam-Webster defines a strategy as: 1) a careful plan or method for achieving a particular goal usually over a long period of time, and 2) the skill of making or carrying out plans to achieve a goal. Sadly, this book provides neither of those things. I've listed better resources below.
General critique: Excessive/unnecessary spacing, overly-large headings, and overly-large images account for roughly 20% of this 59-page book (plus recipes). The author's short disjointed blog-type tips (presented in equally short chapters) don't have associated references, despite having 274 references listed at the end of the book. Nothing in this book is exclusively helpful for brain dysfunction. Furthermore, the presented information fails to provide a clear direction to improve your health...it is just a set of tips in several chapters. Better Options: "Eat to Live" by Dr. Joel Fuhrman, "The Blood Sugar Solution" by Dr. Mark Hyman, and "Disease Proof" Dr. David L. Katz. On an up-note: There are a few interesting snippets on music therapy and chiropractic resets but more comprehensive information on those topics is surely available elsewhere...but I haven't looked into those yet.
Workouts: The author fails to give credit to the extensive high-intensity interval training (HIIT) literature, instead coining his own term, Surge Training, and giving a blip of information on how to do it. Better Options: "The Workout" by Gunnar Peterson, "Body for Life" by Bill Phillips, and "Burn the Fat, Feed the Muscle" by Tom Venuto.
Nutrition: The author seems to have a Paleo focus; yet, instead of using a highly qualified and experienced Paleo recipe developer, the author relies upon a "certified health coach" whose cooking hobby includes concocting such kooky recipes as: "Creative Cranial Coconut Oil Mayonnaise," "Cerebellum Cilantro Sauce," "Big Brain Breakfast Casserole," and...well, you get the idea. Better Options: "It Starts With Food" by Melissa and Dallas Hartwig, "Against All Grain" by Danielle Walker, "Well Fed" by Melissa Joulwan, and "Practical Paleo" by Diane Sanfilippo. For a comprehensive list of brain-boosting superfoods, a better resource is "The Beauty Detox Foods" by Kimberly Snyder.
Motivation: The author focuses on a champion/victim dichotomy. In his view, if you are successful (i.e., a champion), it is because you focused on God and talked yourself through your adversities. If you are not successful (i.e., a victim), you failed to take personal responsibility for your life and circumstances. He only covers very rudimentary tips to shift your mindset. Better Options: "Optimal Thinking" by Rosalene Glickman, "Boundaries" by Henry Cloud, and "Motivational Interviewing" by William R. Miller.
Previous reviews: All of the previous high reviews were dated within days of each other...suggestive of solicited and/or false feedback. I'm sure that many authors and their supporters do this, but it just stood out to me after I read the book and realized that the reviews didn't match the book's content. The feedback seems to be written for another book altogether.

This book is easy to read, loaded with info that can empower people to begin lifestyle changes right away, and packed with back up materials for further study. Love it!
